Pedro Medina

The specific mission of Yo Creo en Colombia (FYCC) is to empower Colombians to speak well about their country and act on its behalf, increasing collective self-worth and building social capital between Colombians.
The idea surged in 1999 when Pedro Medina, Fellow at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, was giving a college class in Colombia and asked his senior students how many of them pictured themselves in Colombia in five years; 12 out of 39 raised their hand. When Mr. Medina asked why they wanted to leave the students turned the question back on him: "Why stay?" Confronted by this and his lack of arguments, Mr. Medina endeavored to organize a research group looking for the positive aspects of Colombia to empower Colombians to speak well about their country.

Isabell Allende

As a novelist and memoirist, Isabel Allende writes of passionate lives, including her own. Born into a Chilean family with political ties, she went into exile in the United States in the 1970s -- an event that, she believes, created her as a writer. Her voice blends sweeping narrative with touches of magical realism; her stories are romantic, in the very best sense of the word. Her novels include The House of the Spirits, Eva Luna and The Stories of Eva Luna, and her latest, Ines of My Soul and La Suma de los Dias (The Sum of Our Days). And don't forget her adventure trilogy for young readers -- City of the Beasts, Kingdom of the Golden Dragon and Forest of the Pygmies.
